Missions Update: the Moment You’ve All Been Waiting for…

Since last October, I have been in contact with Worldwide Evangelism for Christ International (WEC International) about going on a summer missions trip. I had no idea where God wanted to take me, and even if I had, my placement has been changed at least four different times (a real lesson in trust right there) before finally being placed in…

the UK (Birmingham, specifically)!!!

It will definitely not be the ultimate cross-cultural experience I had hoped for, however the ministry I will be involved with is beyond fantastic.

Several years ago, a group from WEC started a church plant among drug addicts in Spain. This ministry (now called Betel International) has spread to India, Europe, as well as many other countries. During my time in the UK, I will have the opportunity to live alongside recent drug addicts, develop relationships with some really broken people, and continue to learn what it means to serve like Jesus.

So many of you have been devoted in prayer for me as I’ve gone through this process of deciding where to go, and that God would really direct me in making certain decisions. For that, I am utterly grateful. Even at this point He is breaking me down and using me right here on campus to reach out to His broken and lost people.

As this process continues, I will keep you updated as often as I can. I know God’s going to use this time between now and when I depart for the UK to really prepare my heart to serve Him. Your prayers are truly coveted as God works in a through me during this time. Thanks!

And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the LORD’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?
For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing. And you are to love those who are aliens, for you yourselves were aliens in Egypt. Fear the LORD your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name. He is your praise; he is your God, who performed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes.

“How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
I gain understanding from your precepts;
therefore I hate every wrong path.”

Psalm 119:103-104

His word never changes and continually fills us up with such sweetness despite the bitterness that surrounds us. When we face trials and have to make hard decisions, sometimes we are inclined to cling to any bitterness in the situation and fail to seek God’s will.

In seeking His will, we are required to do more than just sit around and wait for some big epiphany from God. While He is fully capable in communicating this way with us, He desires our an earnest devotion to speak with Him day-to-day all throughout the day! If we are to understand His precepts, we need to have a constant awareness of His presence. At times, He speaks to us so softly, and we must tune our ears to hear and focus our eyes to see what he wants to say to us.

May you be daily be filled with the sweetness of His words and presence of the Holy Spirit!
